About Us

Since 1996, Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking Company has provided people with professional guide/naturalists, quality equipment, wonderful meals, educational opportunities, kayak instruction and an all around good time in a most wondrous place.  Our guides are experienced professionals chosen for the ability to provide a great adventure with attention to detail and the personal touches our clients deserve.  Most of our trips are geared towards smaller groups to provide that personalized touch.  Sunny Cove prides itself on respecting the environment and follows Leave No Trace protocols.

The quality of services provided by Sunny Cove have not gone unnoticed.  We are proud of our reputation and the services we offer.  Sunny Cove is the company most often recommended by travel agents, tour organizers, guide books and magazines.  You will find Sunny Cove mentioned in National Geographic Adventure, Men’s Journal, Paddler and Alaska Magazine.  We have also been featured on several national television programs.  We are the company selected by tour companies like Austin Lehman Adventures, OARS, and Natural Habitat to provide kayaking excursions for their clients.

What it’s Like to Work for Sunny Cove

SC guides are generally employed from May to September but find most of the workload arriving in June, July and August.  The shoulder season may be slower, but provides guides with the opportunity to take on side projects or perhaps travel Alaska.  During the busy season, the schedule can be hectic and pay and tips can be great.  Those who are available for the entirety of the season will be given hiring preference although there may be a few high season positions available.

Guiding generally entails leading or assisting our many day tour opportunities.  Guides with seniority and experience in Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park are given first priority on multi-day trips.  However, we try our best to provice an opportunity to all of our guidesto experience an overnight adventure in Kenai Fjords National Park.

Housing at SC is limited to bunk house style accommodations for our guide staff.  Space is limited and patience and the ability to share this small amount of space is necessary.  Housing opportunities do exist outside of SC, however the housing market in Seward can be challenging.  There is a limited amount of storage space available to guides.  Guides are generally scheduled between two locations, Seward and Fox Island, creating a ‘rotating’ household. Pets are not allowed in Sunny Cove housing.

More extensive information can be found on our FAQ page.

Our Expectations

All potential guides must possess a strong work ethic as well as a desire to become an integral component of a hard-working, professional team.  Sunny Cove is renowned for the level of friendliness, customer service and professionalism of its staff.  We love to hire people who are outgoing, caring, social and who love to share their enthusiasm for kayaking and Alaska.
